Mission Aligned Investing:Investing in line with your charity’s purpose

You shouldn’t have to put your charity’s purpose to one side to build its financial resilience.

Use us to get the insights and tools you need to make informed decisions that are right for your charity and its purpose.

Although the Charity Commission guidance is not prescriptive it is an area that needs a certain level of thought and expertise. Once you look beneath the surface, many so-called ethical funds or investments may not be as ethical as they claim.

As a charity you have the added challenge of balancing your ethical and financial goals. Often, but not always, this falls under the banner of ‘ESG’. We’ve worked with plenty of organisations to build responsible investment strategies that align with their purpose.

Use us to:

  • guide you through the complex area of environment, social and governance investing (ESG)
  • ensure you understand what is possible and give you cost-effective ways to make it happen
  • analyse the ESG policies of investment funds and determine how well these tally to your own views

Case study - The client initially held a portfolio of equities with a bespoke ethical mandate. Alternative asset classes were excluded from the portfolio not because of a lack of want, but an expectation that it wouldn’t be possible to find alternative investments that met their ethical criteria. We worked closely with them to understand their needs and to find them easily accessible and (crucially) inexpensive pooled funds that both improved the diversification of the overall portfolio and continued to align to their charities mission.

We care about the bigger picture too

We’re a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment which incorporates ESG issues into investing.

See how well aligned your investments are with the globally agreed aims of the Paris climate summit around reducing carbon emissions. We complete the Paris Agreement Capital Transition Assessment (PACTA) analysis for our clients.

We’ve also been awarded Carbon Neutral Plus status by the independent consultancy Carbon Footprint Ltd (CFP).
